❓ Problem
You've installed the Fetch Excel add-in, but you don’t see the Fetch tab or ribbon when you open Excel — meaning you can’t connect to Xero or access the workbook tools.
🔍 Common Causes & How to Fix Them
✅ 1. Add-In Is Disabled or Inactive
The most common cause is that the Fetch add-in isn’t loading on startup.
Fix:
Open Excel
Go to: File → Options → Add-ins
From the Manage dropdown (bottom), select Excel Add-ins, then click Go
Check the box next to Fetch and click OK
💡 If it's already checked but not loading, uncheck → click OK → then go back and recheck it.
✅ 2. Excel Was Running During Installation
If Excel was open when the add-in was installed, the ribbon may not load until Excel restarts.
Fix:
Close all open Excel windows
Reopen Excel from scratch
Open your Fetch workbook and check for the ribbon
✅ 3. Fetch Add-In Was Blocked by Trust Center Settings
Excel's security settings may be stopping the add-in from loading.
Fix:
Go to File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings
Click on Add-ins
Make sure “Disable all Application Add-ins” is not checked
Restart Excel
✅ 4. Running the Wrong Version of Excel
Fetch requires:
Microsoft 365 Desktop App (not web version)
Windows 10/11
64-bit preferred, 32-bit supported
If you're using:
Excel for Mac
Excel Online (web)
Outdated local Office installations
…the ribbon will not appear.
Fix:
Use Windows desktop Excel, ideally Microsoft 365 (64-bit)
Update to the latest version if using an old Office license
🛠 Still not working?
Try reinstalling:
Close Excel completely
Re-download and install the Fetch add-in
Open Excel again — the ribbon should now appear
