❓ Problem
Your Fetch workbook has opened, but:
Shortcut keys aren’t working
The snipping tool doesn’t activate
Buttons don’t respond when clicked
Traffic lights or formulas aren’t updating
This is almost always due to macros being disabled in Excel.
🔍 Why Macros Matter
Fetch uses Excel macros to:
Enable keyboard shortcuts (
Ctrl + Shift + ...)Run ribbon functions like "Inserting GL Rows"
Activate sign-off and status tools
Support snipping and navigation buttons
If macros are blocked, none of these will work — even if the Fetch ribbon appears.
✅ How to Check & Enable Macros
1. Look for the Yellow Security Banner
When you open the workbook, do you see a yellow message bar?
“Security Warning: Macros have been disabled”
Fix:
Click “Enable Content”
If no yellow banner is showing up, try;
Save and close the file
Reopen and try again
2. Update Trust Center Settings (if no banner appears)
If your IT system suppresses security prompts:
In Excel, go to:
File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center SettingsClick Macro Settings
Ensure this is selected:
✅ “Disable all macros with notification”
❌ Avoid “Disable all macros without notification” — this blocks macros silently.
Reopen the workbook — you should now see the enable banner.
3. Use the Desktop App (Not Excel Online or Mac)
Macros do not run in:
Excel Online (browser version)
Excel for Mac
Fix:
Open the file in Microsoft Excel 365 for Windows (desktop app)
Ensure you are not using a web-based preview
⚠️ If You Still Have Issues
Check if your firm’s IT policies block macros (especially on downloaded files)
Right-click the file → Properties → Unblock, then reopen
Or move the file from your Downloads folder to a trusted location
🧪 How to Test If Macros Are Working
Try shortcut:
Ctrl + Shift + Con any workpaper
→ It should turn green and mark as completeTry clicking “Send Queries” on the Lead Sheet
→ Should open a pre-filled email draft
